Breaking into Journalism Travel News
The Breaking into Journalism program provides a very unique opportunity for
anyone to begin a career in journalism. The best benefit for you is that
every one of the stories that you edit and publish will have your picture
and byline on it.
Some students are looking for publications that accept byline articles in
order to get some of their articles published while building their journalism
portfolios. Other students that are seeking caeers or internships for journalism
news outlets that will allow to get some experience working in a real newsroom
so that one day they can get a great paying job writing for the Wall Street
Journal or the New York Times.
Our first rule of journalism is to pick a subject matter you like because
you will spend the rest of your life immersing yourself in your work. Love
your work and you will never have to work a day in your life. Cover
something you hate and your life will be miserable. The good news is
that we have 315 popular news categories. It should be easy to find one
you like. If you recommend a news beat and can prove it has potential
we will create a new beat just for you.
You will work in our virtual newsroom and learn how to scan the
business wires for potential news stories. You also learn that the
early bird really does get the worm, or in this case, the scoop. Each
journalism news beat will have 1-10 students competing for a limted number
of news stories. Deadlines are important. Once the story is filed, you
missed your opportunity.
Our virtual newsroom mimics the exact same setup as any publisher's newsroom.
The only difference is that our newsroom exists on the Internet. You can edit
stories on your time schedule as long as you can meet our deadlines. You do not
have to worry about newsroom politics, dress codes or gas money to get to work.
In fact, you might not want to work anywhere else after working for us.
All you need is a laptop, a phone and a broadband Internet connection to begin
scanning, selecting, editing and publishing your stories to one or more our
national newspapers, trade publications or newsletters.
